A New Beginning for Crown

IMG_0931-2.jpg

Dear Crown Beauty Bar and Crown Uptown clients and family,

The year 2020 has brought unprecedented challenges and changes many businesses have never faced. For the Crown team, those challenges started earlier in July of 2019 with the passing of my husband and business partner, Zac. Only 3 months before his tragic accident, we had purchased Glo Limited to become Crown Uptown Spa, the 3rd location of Crown Beauty Bar LLC. Expansion was a large vision of Zac’s, and I wondered if it was something I would be able to maintain without his partnership. Wise financial counsel advised me to put the right people in management, take some time away, and wait at least a year for any major changes due to the way grief clouds everything. I am very thankful to have heeded this advice because deep down I didn’t know if I could run the multiple locations, but I was not ready to give up on what we started together. I even feared that downsizing or selling the business would not be honoring him. Losing Zac, the passing of time, and enduring Covid-19 has shown me the frailty of life and gave me the clarity I needed. The most honoring thing I can do is spend my time and energy wisely on our son and downsize to one location.

With great honor and gratitude, I would like to announce that Crown Uptown Spa has sold to new ownership and will reopen as Glo Limited this week. The new owner, Brooke Lindsey, is dedicated to providing the same brands and quality services you have come to love.

To the Crown Uptown team, thank you for your hard work and grace as I navigated the unimaginable. The caliber of professionals and history of the business gave me confidence to take time away. Nothing went as Zac and I hoped, but you were all resilient and professional. I learned a lot and grew through the challenges of this year, and I will always look back with gratitude for the opportunity.

To all of the Crown Teams and Friends, thank you for the love and support the past 7 years, and especially this last one. With incredible teams of people, new hires in management, great professional counsel, and supportive clients we survived the hardest year to date. This transition brings me tremendous peace as I think about focusing on one team in our flagship location allowing more time and energy to spend with my son. This season of life has felt impossible at times, but I remain hopeful as I reflect on the foundation Zac and I built and regain strength and inspiration. I look forward to continuing the Crown journey with many of you by my side. Crown Beauty Bar will continue to accept gift cards and offer hair, spa, makeup, and nail services under my ownership in the original downtown location.  Who knows, maybe I can even meet my ultimate goal and get behind the chair again a little.

With love and gratitude,

Kelly Stuckey

The Brilliance of Light Therapy

LED light therapy is now available at all of our Crown Beauty Bar locations! We cannot wait to see people’s complexions change just by laying under a light and relaxing for 30 minutes! Tap the title of this post to learn more about this non-invasive therapy treatment!

We are so excited to announce Crown Beauty Bar will be offering Celluma LED Light Therapy at all our locations!

This treatment has been used by celebs like Kourtney Kardashian, Jessica Alba, and many more so you’ve probably heard about it! For those that haven’t, it’s sometimes called low-level light therapy or photobiomodulation. Both terms are synonymously used to describe the delivery of light energy to treat a variety of medical conditions.

So what is low-level light therapy?

It’s the application of specific wavelengths of light energy to tissue to obtain therapeutic benefits. The energy delivered is then used to improve cellular performance. Sounds fancy, but light has a tremendous impact on our skin over time. Celluma light therapy mimics a natural photobiochemical reaction process to deliver safe, UV-free low-level light energy through an FDA cleared, high-intensity LED device.

You can use light therapy to regain and maintain your body’s natural vitality without the concern of dangerous side effects often associated with drugs and procedures.

Before-and-After-Led-Light-Therapy-Celluma-Tampa-4.jpg

What color light is right for me?

Amber light stimulates collagen and elastin. Red light is most commonly used to promote circulation. White light penetrates the deepest and works to tighten and reduce inflammation. Blue light kills bacteria.

What can i expect?

LED light therapy is just that, therapy. It requires the client to commit to a regimen as best results are achieved over time, not after a couple sessions.

The treatment is non-invasive, painless, requires no recovery time, and can be used on all skin types and takes about 30 minutes to complete a session.

Celluma Fights Acne!

If you suffer from acne regularly, we can design a routine to bring your skin back to health!

-Diminishes acne bacteria

-Clears existing breakouts

-Restores skin’s healthy appearance

Book a 30 minute appointment to quickly treat your breakouts, or add on to any service! Complimentary consultations are always offered.

Celluma Fights Aging!

Let’s fight off the signs of aging with some relaxation. Sounds too good to be true but with LED light therapy, we can wake up what’s underneath your skin’s surface and get things moving again!

-Increases collagen and elastin

-Reduces fine lines and wrinkles

-Improves firmness and resilience

-Reduces inflammation

Book a 30 minute appointment to help maintain your skins youthfulness or add on to any service. For the ultimate anti-aging treatment, book multiple sessions for optimal results. Complimentary consultations are always available.

Answers to the Facial Questions You're Afraid to Ask

The ultimate facial experience is filled with smells, sounds, products, dim lighting, and massage techniques to ensure optimal relaxation. What happens when we can’t shut out our thoughts, when we need to speak up but don’t want to stop the service? You’re not alone, it even happens to us! Here are a few thoughts we’ve all had, and some advice on how to approach the situation. Tap the title of this post to read more!

“I need to use the bathroom, but don’t want to interrupt.”

We want you to enjoy your service and want you to be able to relax. Always let us know if you need a bathroom break, so you can return and finish your facial comfortably.

“Did I just fall asleep?”

This happens to almost everyone! Dozing off during your facial is the ultimate compliment! We want to make sure you are completely relaxed during this process.

“Am I supposed to talk? I want to know what products she is using, but I also want to relax.”

Upon arriving, you will fill out a facial form that will assist us in choosing the proper products for your skin type. Before beginning the service we will ask a few questions, and a brief explanation of products will be discussed. Following your facial, we will discuss products, and recommendations that best suit your needs.

“Can she tell I’m terrible at sticking with a skin care routine?”

Not necessarily, but please realize that we want what’s best for you and your skin! Being open and honest about your routine will help us in guiding you toward a beneficial direction. These are some questions we would typically ask:

How much time are you willing to give to a skin care routine?

Are you more likely to reach for a wipe than a cleanser?

What products are you currently using?

Would you say you are dry, oily, or combination?

Would you say you have sensitive skin?

“This product is itching/burning/uncomfortable but maybe it is normal....”

If you are feeling any discomfort please let us know! If a product has any tingle sensation, or is a peel of some sort, we will give you a heads up. Everyone’s skin is different, and will react in a million different ways, we want to make sure you are protected and at ease.

“I am feeling a little claustrophobic in this bed, deep breaths deep breaths....”

Our beds are set up to be a warm, luxurious, and cozy. Sometimes the bedding can feel heavy, and the warmth can be overwhelming. If this is the case with you, we would gladly reduce the temperature, and remove some layers so you can fully relax.

“I hope she does something about these blackheads, I’m so embarrassed.”

Don’t be, we feel your pain! If you want us to extract, let us know! There are products that are meant to soften buildup, along with steam, for easier removal without damaging the skin.

“I wonder how often I need to get a facial.”

This will depend on your skin type, and what our end goal is. If you have no issues, and you are just doing seasonal maintenance, 4-6 times a year would suffice. These sessions would be to make sure you are still using the proper products, and to remove any cell buildup to prepare for the upcoming season.

If you are trying to reverse damage, or trying to treat an issue such as acne, rosacea, eczema, etc. we will set up a realistic service plan to receive optimal results.

We suggest that you set an intention for your facial time. Think about what you need from this service. Do you need education on products? Are you here to relax? Whatever your need, we are happy to help. Tell us your intention, so we can work together! Once we have that figured out, please relax and enjoy your facial.

Here are a few ways to relax the mind and body:

-Place one hand on your heart, and the other on your stomach. Take deep breaths, in for 4 seconds, and out for 4 seconds, reminding yourself that this is a time to rest, and de-stress.

-Flex your entire body starting at your toes, moving upwards. Flex, and relax, then move to the next muscle. Take your time, and imagine your body relaxing after each flex. Once you have completed, your body will feel lighter, and at ease.

-Do a quick meditation. Take a couple of minutes to tell yourself you deserve this, because you do!

How to Achieve Your Perfect Brow

Let’s face it, brows are the new everything. It’s the first thing we notice, and everyone is talking about them. It’s not a fad that is focusing on one type of brow, but a revolution that is celebrating every shape, color, and fullness. Choosing brow products that are best suited can be intimidating and challenging, so here are a few product options and explanations! Click the title of the post to learn more!

POWDERS

Brow powders typically have a softer effect and are the best option for a natural look. They can also be used to set your brow pencils for a longer lasting, fuller brow. Anyone can use a powder, but it typically looks best if there is plenty of hair to work with on the forefront. To apply a brow powder, use an angled brush and start at your arches, filling in the direction of growth toward the tail. Move to the front of the brows and lightly fill in from the bottom up, and over to meet the arch. Brush through.

Try the Jane Iredale GreatShape® Eyebrow Kit.

GreatShape® Eyebrow Kit

PENCILS

A brow pencil is best used if you have gaps, sparse hairs, or as symmetrical brows. Don’t make the mistake of going too heavy or too dark in your application. Instead start filling the brows in at the arch with feather like strokes in the direction of growth, and toward the tail. Return to the front of the brow and lightly fill in, and brush through the brow. We tend to be heavy handed with pencils, so starting at the arch will keep the front of your brows soft and pretty, yet defined.

Try Jane Iredale Brow Pencil

Retractable Brow Pencil

POMADE

If you love a bold, statement brow, Pomade is the product for you! This option is especially great for those with very sparse/non-existing brows. Those who already have naturally full brows can use a pomade to add definition and tame hair growth patterns. Dip an angled brush into product, and flatten the brush by pressing both sides of the brush to the back of your hand. This pushes the bristles together to ensure thin lines. Apply hairlike strokes in the direction of hair growth throughout the entire brow from front to tail. Another option is an ombré effect. Underline the brow starting with the bottom, from the front to the tail. Line the top of the brow from the arch to the tail. Lightly fill in the outlined area, leaving the front (anchor)of the brow without product. In the anchor of the brow, create hair like strokes, and brush through from the bottom in and upward and outward motion.

Try Cailyn Gelux Eyebrow

Cailyn Gelux Eyebrow

GEL

The quickest, easiest way to add color, fullness, and tame unruly hairs. A brow gel is similar to mascara. Perfect for all brow types with existing hair, especially those with coarse, bold brows. I suggest removing any excess product from the brush before you apply, then back comb the hair from tail to front. Comb hair into place in an up and outward motion, or in the direction of growth.

Try Revitalash Brow Gel

REVITABROW® ADVANCED

REVITABROW® ADVANCED

A few more things to know...

BROW COLOR SELECTION

I see a lot of brows that are applied too heavy, and too dark! This is a helpful guide when choosing your shade.

Dark Hair- 1 to 2 shades lighter
Light Hair- 1 to 2 shades darker

CLEAN UP TRICK

Don’t worry about getting outside of the shape, or not applying perfectly. Dip a clean angled brush in your concealer or foundation, and lightly carve out the brow shape. This will clean up any mistakes, then you can blend it out to highlight the brow!

BROW GROWTH SERUMS WORK!

If you have sparse brows due to over plucking, trauma, medical conditions, etc, don’t be discouraged. Growth serums work by waking up the follicles to be on the Anagen (growth) Phase at the same time, continuously. We recommend Revitabrow, which is the only growth serum backed by the American Cancer Association.

SHORT ON TIME?

We get it! Try brow tint, a professional service that colors the brow hairs for up to 6 weeks. Multiple, custom shades are available to create your perfect brow, and it only takes 15 minutes or less.

WANT YOUR BROWS TO LAST LONGER?

Semi-Permanent MakeUp is a great option with multiple ways to achieve a great brow. Microblading, Blade & Shade, Ombre, Powder Brow, and more ... Available to all skin and hair types! Make sure to have a consultation, and ask lots of questions so everyone is on the same page about what results you want to achieve.

Want some one on one advice? Schedule a consultation or just book a brow appointment and let’s get started off on the right foot to better brows. Click the button below to get started!

10 Makeup Tips You Must Know!

We get it. For most, makeup is a just another daily ritual. It can be time consuming, frustrating and boring. But what if you’re doing it all wrong? There might be items you’re overusing. There might be brushes you don’t even need! Let’s get back to when makeup was fun! The makeup artists at Crown are ready to dive in and help! Click the title to read more!

  1. Use Waterproof Mascara Responsibly.
We love matte lipsticks because of the long wear, but it can leave our lips feeling dehydrated and cracked. The same can be said about waterproof mascara! Improper wear and removal can cause our lashes to break, and even fall out. To protect your lashes, always remove waterproof mascara before bed with an oil to easily break down the product without the need to rub intensely.

  2. Know your tone.
Makeup will always break down into color categories; warm, cool, or neutral. This is important when matching a proper foundation and concealer to ensure an even skin tone! An easy way to find your tone is to check your veins. If they appear purple or blue, you have a cool tone. If they appear green, you have a yellow tone. If you struggle to figure it out, you’re more likely neutral.

  3. Lighting is everything!
Never apply your makeup in a badly lit room, you will end up applying too much makeup and appear caked. Natural light is always the best option but if you don’t have enough windows, look for LED bulbs with a 3000k color temperature.

  4. Tight-lining is a must.

If you wear eyeliner, make sure to apply IN the lash line AND underneath the lash line. This will give the appearance of a fuller lash line and polished look. To apply, lift the center of the lid with one finger, look down, and coat the underneath of the top lash line. I recommend a gel, or waterproof liner for this look. Check out Kelly’s 7 Minute Makeup Tutorial for an even quicker method.

  5. Subtle Blush Effect.

For a natural looking blushed cheek, apply your blush before your foundation. It will gently peak through leaving a beautiful, natural glow. This works best with sheer to medium coverage foundations.

  6. Peach fuzz problems.

We all have vellus hair on our face, aka peach fuzz. To avoid bringing attention to the hair, always apply your products in a downward motion to keep them from standing up. If your fuzz is out of control, book an epidermal leveling facial to temporarily remove the hair, and dead skin cells. Your skin will thank you!

  7. DIY BB Cream.

Mix your favorite foundation with a little moisturizer and sunscreen to create a BB cream that leaves your skin looking natural, protected, and healthy! Start with a small amount and build until you find the perfect mixture.

  8. You don’t need a million brushes.

But you do need a few that can be multi-purpose. A dense foundation brush, a fluffy powder brush, a blending eye shadow brush, and an angled liner brush are everyday staples.

Foundation Brush: Foundation, Concealer, Blush, Powder, Contour, Bronzer

Blending Brush: Eye Primer, Eye Shadow, Concealer, Setting Powder for smaller areas, Highlighter

Fluffy Powder Brush: Setting Powder for full face, Pressed and Loose Powder, Bronzer, Sheer Coverage Foundation, Highlighter

Angled Liner Brush: Eye Liner, Eye Shadow, Brow Gel/Powder, Highlight smaller areas.

  9. Curl those lashes!

You can have the longest lashes, but if they are strait, no one will notice. Before applying your mascara, use your hair dryer to blast some hot air on your lash curler for no more than a few seconds. Check the temperature, then pump twice at the base, middle, and end of your lashes for a curl that will last all day. A longer lasting option is a Lash Lift, similar to a perm for your hair, this service will leave your lashes curlier for up to 8 weeks.

  10. Proceed with caution.

It’s hard not to get caught up in the YouTube and IG world of makeup. Educating yourself is important, just remember when you’re watching that application is always based on skin type and face shape. What an influencer chooses to use, may not be what’s best for you! When shopping, bring a list of what you’re looking for so the professionals can recommend similar products for your skin.

Sometimes you just need your own personal professional to help. At Crown, we have two options for you to choose from. Have your own makeup you love? Tools you want to love but don’t quite know how to use? Our Bring Your Bag service allows you to spend an hour with one of our artists going through what you do and don’t need, selecting what’s right for you. We’ll show you how to use what you have and you’ll leave more confident in what you already own.

In addition, we also have Makeup Instruction services that offer you a one-on-one scheduled hour to learn about how Jane Iredale makeup and brushes work together to provide the best dermatology recommended makeup on the market! Get color matched, learn techniques and get some tips along the way.

Makeup should be fun and it should be a daily routine you look forward to! We’re here to shed some light on everything makeup!

Kelly shows you how she applies a full face of makeup in just 7 minutes!

It was a dry, cold winter here in Arkansas and we have seen our clients feeling the aftermath of dry scalp, hair, and skin! Get back in balance just in time for spring. Here are some tips and recommendations!

By Kelly Stuckey, owner and stylist

By Kelly Stuckey, owner and stylist

For Your Hair

  • Stop washing your hair in hot water!  Extra heat will only dry it out farther and is actually damaging, especially for highlighted hair. That doesn’t mean you have to dial the temp back the entire time, but at least when you rinse your hair!

IMG_2709.jpg
  • Dry scalp or dandruff?  These 2 ailments are often confused and self diagnosed incorrectly.

  1. Dry scalp is due to loss of moisture from the skin and can be caused by cold weather, product buildup, and even diet (example: caffeine). Signs and symptoms are itching and small white flakes that come off easily.  Our NaturalTech line has the Nourishing Royal Jelly scalp treatment made just to relieve dry itchy scalp. Aren’t local? Visit the Davines website salon locator to find a salon near you.
  2. Dandruff is not caused by dryness, but rather an overgrowth of a harmless yeast due to too much oil (sebum) so it is very important to know which one you have so you can treat properly.  Dandruff flakes are larger, greasy and yellowish white in color, and harder to come off the scalp. You will experience itching and usually have scalp odor. The Davines NaturalTech Purifying Shampoo and Gel will get your dandruff under control and scalp feeling clean and healthy again.

naturaltech.jpg

  • Dry hair needs extra moisture with some deep conditioning treatments. It’s always worth it to invest in a deep conditioner for your hair type to have on hand and use once every week or 2.

  • Brush your hair… sounds simple, right? Many people do not brush their hair properly and only focus on the ends! Be sure your bristles really brush along your scalp and down through your ends. This will stimulate your scalp and bring down any oils you naturally produce to moisturize your hair. Investing in a quality hair boar bristle hair brush and hair oil like Davines Oi is another way to ensure scalp and hair health.

  • Come see one of our stylists to help set you up with the right treatment and home plan to have your hair and scalp healthy for the season ahead!

For Your Skin

  • Get rid of flaky, dry skin by exfoliating two to three times a week. After the stress of winter, our skin needs a pick me up and a light exfoliant is all you need to buff out unwanted cell buildup to leave glowing skin. If your skin is sensitive to physical exfoliants, try a gentle enzymatic exfoliant like Comfort Zone Essential Peeling or use cleansers rich in fruit antioxidants.

essentialpeel.jpg
  • Heavy creams are used during the winter to shield the skin from environmental factors. As humidity and heat increase, you should opt for a lighter weight moisturizer that can provide more water than oil. Adding a spritz of toner after cleansing is also key in hydrating the skin for a healthy result.

  • Spring brings allergies, and allergies bring breakouts! Combat breakouts with a double cleanse. Wipes are an easy go to, but they actually can do more harm than good! Try the Jane Iredale Magic Mitt. All you have to do is add warm water to the mitt, and wipe away all of your makeup with ease. After, double cleanse your skin with a foaming gel cleanser to make sure all of your makeup has been removed.

magicmitt copy.jpg
  • We swapped out our heavy cream moisturizers, now we need to swap out our heavy foundations! Choose a lighter weight foundation that contains SPF. Jane Iredale offers multiple coverage options that all contain a great amount of sun protection. UV rays thicken our skin, which cause MORE breakouts, so it’s time to protect your skin! The best part about Jane foundations are they do not harbor bacteria so you can save those winter colors for next season.

janeiredalepowder.PNG
  • Feed your skin. Our skin is the largest organ and receives nutrients last, which means we should be mindful of what we eat and drink. Drinking half our weight in water is ideal for optimal skin health. Salmon is rich in a fatty acid called eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), a type of omega-3 that naturally helps block the release of UV-induced enzymes that diminish collagen, causing lines and sagging skin. Salmon contains omega-3s that regulate oil production in the skin and boost hydration, which helps keep your complexion dewy and acne-free. Supplements are also a great way to directly feed your skin and Jane Iredale has formulated some of the best options for all skin types!

skinomegas.jpg
  • Now is the time to book your custom facial with your favorite esthetician. A professional can evaluate your skin, and can help set your skin up for success this spring!

What do you think of when you hear “hair extensions?” Damaging? Expensive? Long hair? High maintenance? They look fake? Something only for the rich and famous?  I would love to shed some light on some of these myths and misconceptions on one of the top requested services in the beauty industry. Hair extensions are damaging: True and False

In the wrong hands, hair extensions can be damaging. It requires proper application and education to the client on how to care for them. A stylist who has undergone training should know how to select the right kind of your hair type and goals, and how to apply and remove them without damaging your hair.

I personally believe properly applied extensions are no more damaging than bleach and highlights. In fact, many clients get them to add highlights to their hair instead of bleach.

holly.JPG

Hair extensions are only for long hair: False

In our salon, we do extensions as often for thickening and to enhance hair color as we do them for length. Many women love the added texture and fullness they get with extensions!  Their hair will hold curl longer and actually make getting ready easier and more enjoyable. Even with shorter hair, Savvy can’t live without her Hotheads extensions for the fullness and style they put into her hair!

You have to be committed to taking proper care of them, and investing in quality products to ensure they stay healthy. Yes, they take longer to blowdry and there is more hair to style. However, they hold curl really well and your style lasts longer!  Also, the added hair absorbs more oils from your scalp and will extend the days between washes. For me personally, I spend less time daily on my hair when I am wearing extensions. Now, the days I wash are more time consuming, but it’s worth it.

Hair extensions are expensive: True

The great news is there are several options out there for every budget and lifestyle. We have many people come in for a consultation expecting to pay more, and we have some who leave with sticker shock. Always go for real “remy” human hair. Remy means the hair strands are all assembled with the cuticle going in a downward direction like your own hair.  The best ethnicity is Indian hair because it’s a more natural texture that works well with all hair types. Quality hair is costly and this will reflect in the price. Also, the training and certification for the stylist is a large financial investment they have to recoup, not to mention the time it takes to properly apply and blend the hair. Bottom line, don’t ever get extensions on a deal. This is a perfect example of you get what you pay for.

redhairextensions.jpeg

Hair extensions always look fake: False

The color matching, cutting, and blending will make or break your look. For your hair extensions to look natural, there are considerations like using a variety of colors and putting in enough hair to allow for layers and blending into your own. Don’t skimp on amount of hair. If your stylist recommends a certain amount that is above your budget, hold off and keep saving. Don’t compromise by just getting less hair. It will show. You should be able to wear your extensions straight or curled!

Hair extensions are for the rich and famous:  False

We have clients that range from college students to young professionals to busy mommas. Some clients save up to invest in this service one time for a special season and some build it into their budget and wear them year-round.

Bikini season is upon us!  After a crazy cold winter, who else is READY for sunshine and warmer temps?!  One service many women and men start considering as spring approaches is body waxing. However, it is a service that can give many people pause as they think about the potential pain and vulnerability that comes along with it.  We want to provide you with some information that can set your mind at ease and make you feel more comfortable to come in.  Here it is from Crown's pro aesthetician, Hannah Simpson (@hannahsimpsonmua).

Be Prepared:

  • Make sure the hair is no longer than a quarter of an inch, like a long grain of rice.  Stop shaving for approx 4 weeks.. I know that seems like a long time! This is for your comfort, and to make sure we can remove all the hair with ease.  A simple trimmer with guard attachments will do the trick, available at Walgreens or on Amazon HERE.
  • If you are receiving a bikini wax, wear loose fitting clothing and try not to do anything afterwards to allow for the area to recover post wax. You don’t know how your body is going to react, so running around, sweating and chaffing could wreak havoc on your newly bare (and abused) skin. Go home, take off your pants, grab an ice pack, and chill.
  • If you are prone to ingrown hairs you will want to exfoliate the area to help aid in the healing process.
  • Bruising, lifted skin, and ingrown hairs are possible, but there are remedies for aftercare. Ask your waxer for more information. We use the highest quality wax and do everything we can to avoid skin trauma.
  • Wait, I still have stubble after my waxing appointment? Let me explain the 3 stages of hair growth: Anagen, Catagen and Telogen.
    • In the Anagen stage, the hair is beginning to grow.
    • The Catagen stage is the intermediate stage of growth.
    • The Telogen stage is the shedding stage.
    • These stages are always going on, but not on the same cycle unless you are a regular, seasoned waxing client. This means you always have hairs that are shedding, growing (and are too short for the wax to grab), and the intermediate hairs. The Catagen and Telogen hairs will definitely be removed with your 1st waxing appt. The Anagen hairs just beginning to grow will be too short and not pulled up by wax. With consistent waxing, the various stages should get on the same cycle for smooth skin.

To Ease Your Mind:

  • Feel vulnerable or exposed?  Don’t worry, it’s our profession and we do not take it lightly!
  • Scared of the pain? Pop some Advil 30 min prior to your service to help with inflammation and pain.
  • We always apply calming solutions after every wax service.
  • Most waxes contain polymers, which we feel is an unnecessary danger for your skin. This is why we offer polymer free wax for all our body waxing services!
  • The more consistent you are, the less it hurts.  Even your 2nd wax will be less painful.

Recommendations:

  • Start waxing early. If you have a trip or something coming up, do not wait until that week for your first body wax appointment.  Get one now to prep the area and ensure you don’t have an adverse reaction.  Getting 2-3 waxes in on a regular routine before summer starts will be best.
    • Hair will grow back thinner, finer, and sometimes not at all with every wax!!!
  • We recommend waxing between 4-6 weeks to reduce and even eliminate regrowth. Stay consistent!

About Our Wax:

There are a ton of wax options and at Crown we carry the best! Soft wax is typically a higher temperature wax used with strips to remove hair. It also has a stickier consistency making larger areas of hair easier and faster to remove. Hard wax is low temperature and hardens on its own, eliminating the need for strips. Hard wax will only adhere to hair, making sensitive areas much less painful during removal.

coco+diva.png
  • Se Brazil Coco is a low-temperature creamy Brazilian-style hard wax perfect for face and full body waxing especially sensitive areas. This wax will adhere to even the shortest hair without leaving a sticky residue on the skin.
    • Ingredients: Oleorosin (gum rosin), Cera Alba, Cocoa Extracts & Natural Ingredients.
  • Diva is an all-natural gel-based hard wax known as the "dryer". Diva can be mixed with Coco to speed up the drying time.
    • Ingredients: Oleoresin, Cera Alba, Honey extracts & natural ingredients
  • Seven is a beautiful soft wax is a low-temperature wax great for brazilian/bikini waxing and full-body waxing.
    • Ingredients: colophonium, vegetable oil, microcrystalline wax, mica, titanium dioxide, parfum, D&C Violet #2
  • During a bikini service, all three waxes are used to ensure a quick, less painful removal procedure. In most cases, a Brazilian can be done in under 20 minutes with this amazing combination of plastic free wax!
  • For larger surface areas we typically use the Seven soft wax for efficiency.

NEVER WAX WHEN:

  • You currently take Accutane or have stopped taking it for less than a year.
  • You’re taking any prescription acne medication.
  • You have Lupus or Aids, or an outbreak of Herpes.
    • Reduce chances of a Herpes outbreak by taking your medication 3 days prior.
  • You’re in cancer therapy getting chemotherapy or radiation.
  • You have been in direct sunlight for a long period of time.
  • You have used a tanning bed within the last 24 hours.
  • Areas you’re using any alpha hydroxy acids over 8%.
  • Over or around body piercings.
  • NEVER EVER WAX IRRITATED, INFLAMED, CUT, OR SUNBURNED SKIN.
  • NEVER use a hot tub within 3 days post waxing.

Visit our website for pricing and booking information. We hope this answers some questions, relieves some fears, and prepares you for this upcoming spring/summer!

  • Start talking about your look with your stylist or researching to find a stylist if you don’t already have one.  Your stylist will be able to make recommendations about what you will need to be thinking about to achieve your desired look.

drinkwater.PNG
  • Incorporating exercise will not only have you looking your best, but will also boost serotonin and help you cope with planning stressors.
  • Do you take vitamins? If not, now is the time to start! We recommend taking a multivitamin, biotin, Skin Omegas and Skin Complete by Jane Iredale.

  • Start teeth whitening now if needed.

HAIR

  • Is your desired wedding day hair color lighter or darker than it is currently?  Now is the time to start working that direction!
  • Are you wanting longer hair for engagement photos, bridal photos, showers and wedding day?  There are options for every budget:
    • Socap keratin bonded or Hot Heads tape-in extensions are our more permanent methods of all natural hair that will last you 4-6 months and cost anywhere from $300-$1500.
    • We also have more temporary options for daily wear with Socap clip-in extensions and Hot Heads The Band, both custom ordered to match your hair color and desired length.  These styles range from $350-$600, and include tips for how you can put them in.
    • Looking for a way to just boost your own hair growth? Davines Energizing and Regenesis products stimulate your scalp and aid in growth. Talk to your stylist about what is best for you!
  • Need to get your hair in better condition?  Time to invest in conditioning treatments and salon quality products for optimum health and shine.  Davines NaturalTech products have a treatment line for every hair and scalp ailment.

SKIN & BODY CARE

  • Start by getting a facial and talk to your esthetician about a home skin care regimen with professional facials every 4-6 weeks. Our brand, Comfort Zone, has a line for every skin type all with anti-aging results.
facials.jpg
  • Let’s talk eyelashes. Every woman wants longer, fuller eyelashes on her wedding day. Decide if you would like to have eyelash extensions, use a lash growth serum like RevitaLash, or just wear an eyelash strip during your engagement and wedding festivities.
    • RevitaLash Advanced Serum is $150 and lasts for approx 6 months!  You will start to see longer, fuller lashes within 6-8 weeks.
    • We recommend Xtreme Lash Extensions (available at Crown) if you are looking to wear individual extensions. A full set is $250 and you will need to get them filled ($1 per minute, usually $40-60) every 2-3 weeks.
madyrevitalash.jpeg
  • Never underestimate the power of properly shaped, full eyebrows. If your brows have been over tweezed or waxed, there is hope! RevitaBrow Advanced Serum ($150) will have new brow hairs growing back in within 8 weeks. We recommend putting your brows in rehab and not touching them at all during this time. No tweezing or waxing!  After 8 weeks, come in and see one of our brow artists so they can give you the perfect shape! Then maintain your look with a brow appointment every 4-6 weeks with no at-home tweezing!
  • Body and bikini waxing. Now is the time to start a regular regimen of 4-6 weeks, if you do not regularly do them. Waxing those areas becomes less painful and irritating each time you do them, plus you need to know now if your skin will have adverse reactions. You would hate to get your first bikini wax the week of your wedding and be uncomfortable on your honeymoon!
    • Day of waxing tip: take some pain relievers about 30 minutes before your appointment.

4-6 WEEKS OUT:

HAIR & MAKEUP

  • Schedule a trial run for your hair and makeup.  Trials are highly recommended to ensure the perfect interpretation of your desired wedding day look.
    • Do not flat iron your hair before a trial run, especially if your goal is loose, soft curls.
    • Let the stylist know about any hair accessories, veils, or considerations that you plan to have.
    • Take pictures you can save to look at on the wedding day.
flowercrown.jpeg
  • Finalize needed services for you and your wedding party so appropriate time and number of stylists can be scheduled on your wedding day.  Will you be doing services at the salon or on-location?  Keep in mind a stylist can always go onsite for a travel fee!

kyler on location.jpeg
  • Wearing hair extensions for the wedding day? We recommend wearing them for at least a month before so you have time to adjust to your new hair.  Our hair extensions last 4-5 months so you could also get them to wear throughout your entire engagement, and replace them with a new set 1 month before the wedding day.

SKIN AND BODY

  • Do not make any changes to your birth control, skincare program, laundry detergent, etc. because you do not know how your skin will react!
  • Keep maintaining your facial, brow, and lash regimen!
madyIResolve.jpeg
  • Try out spray tanning now if you plan to get one before the wedding so you can make sure you like the color and see how long it lasts on your skin.  Our Norvell airbrush spray tan lasts 5-7 days depending on each person’s skin moisturization and the use of the recommended products.
    • Always come in with clean, exfoliated skin for your spray tan.  Avoid using lotion before your appointment, and shave your legs for better even application.
    • Be prepared to wait at least 8, but recommended 12 hours to shower. The tanning solution will darker over time so don’t be alarmed when you look in the mirror later!
    • Ensure your spray tan lasts as long as possible by keeping your skin hydrated and moisturized after your initial shower.

WEDDING WEEK

  • Get your facial, massage, body waxing, lash fill, and brow shape early in the week to induce some relaxation before your guests start to get in town. This will allow time to remedy anything necessary and heal any minor irritation.
  • Schedule your hair appointment 3-5 days before the wedding day.  It takes 72 hours for the cuticle to close after color and it looks best after day 3!  This will also allow time to adjust anything to your color or cut if needed.
  • Plan ahead and talk with your bridal party to see if you are doing nails together or before the group is together for the wedding weekend.
  • We recommend a spray tan 2 days before your big weekend.  Exfoliate and come in with clean skin free of all moisturizers and loose fitting clothing.  Allow the tan to develop for 7-24 hours and then shower with recommended pH balanced soap. Moisturize your skin regularly to maintain your tan and for even exfoliation to avoid patchy spots as it fades.
  • Avoid high sodium foods and drinks!  Sodium holds 50 times its weight in water so you could shed an extra couple pounds of water weight.

WEDDING DAY

getting wedding ready.jpg
  • Avoid wearing clothing or bras with tight straps to prevent red lines on your back and shoulders

getrest.JPG
  • Get plenty of sleep the night before and drink lots of water!
  • Don’t forget to eat something with protein that won’t cause bloating.
the big day.jpg
  • Don’t be afraid to speak up if there is anything you want to adjust with your hair and makeup. It can always be taken down or wiped off and this is YOUR special day!!!

And lastly, HAVE FUN! Enjoy this day and the people you share it with.

How to Care for Your Skin During Winter

We all suffer from dry, flaky, and sometimes chapped skin during the cold winter months, but why? In this fact filled blog, I will explain environmental factors and how to combat the issue!

We all suffer from dry, flaky, and sometimes chapped skin during the cold winter months, but why? In this fact filled blog, I will explain environmental factors and how to combat the issue!

Why so dry?

During winter, the humidity levels drop which causes moisture to evaporate at a faster pace leaving your skin dry and tight. This is why drinking water, and the right moisturizer is so important!

remedy-cream-60-ml-2000x2000.jpg__1200x1200_q85_subsampling-2_upscale.jpg
10879-renight-oil-30ml.jpg__1200x1200_q85_subsampling-2_upscale.jpg

Indoor heating is another culprit to dry skin. The dry warm air consistently circulating can lead to flaky skin, dry membranes, dry noses, chapped lips, and even nose bleeds. Try keeping your heat at the lowest comfortable setting, use a humidifier to aid in moisture, and use body lotions.

10980-tranquillity-body-cream-180-ml.jpg__1200x1200_q85_subsampling-2_upscale.jpg

Hot showers and baths will strip your skin of natural oils! Try instead, a luke warm shower using a hydrating body wash. Steer clear of harsh bars of soap.

10982-tranquillity-shower-cream-200-ml.jpg__1200x1200_q85_subsampling-2_upscale.jpg
milk.jpg__1200x1200_q85_subsampling-2_upscale.jpg
remedy-cream-to-oil-150ml-2000x2000.jpg__1200x1200_q85_subsampling-2_upscale.jpg

You really are what you eat. Environment plays a role in every aspect of our bodies. If our skin is telling us we are dry, we have to respond! Replenish with foods high in GOOD fatty acids. I’m talking Omega 3s! So skip that steak and order the fish. If you can’t handle the fish, there are a ton of great supplements you can take that directly benefit your skin.

jpg.jpeg

Don’t stress over which moisturizer to use! It doesn’t have to be a super thick cream, thinner fluids work well too! It’s all in the ingredients and how the product is formulated. If you over treat, the moisturizer will just sit on top of the skin and block pores. A thin layer morning and night is all you will need!
Here are a few I recommend:

For Oily Skin

ap_fluid.jpg__1200x1200_q85_subsampling-2_upscale.jpg

For Dry Skin

For Combination Skin

For Anti-Aging
